Brie
Avoided a THIRD hip surgery
Where she was: Uncertainty clouded Brie's mind about her persistent hip agony. Years of chronic pain had stolen her zest for workouts, a good night's sleep, and even simple strolls. Teetering on the brink of her third hip surgery, doubts plagued her about its necessity.
What we did: Brie's journey to recovery began with a heartfelt consultation at our clinic. Together, we delved into her struggles, exploring avenues for relief and crafting a personalized action plan. Through our therapy sessions, we dove into easing her pain with precise mobilizations and targeted exercises, focusing on fortifying the deep stabilizers and rotators in her hips. As Brie's strength grew, we upped the ante, integrating rigorous core workouts into her regimen.
Where she is now: Today, Brie experiences in pain free sleep, unbound by the need to find that one comfortable spot. She's returned to exercising and lifting with renewed vigor, her hips no longer a source of dread. Brie now stands tall and walks limitless, free from hip pain.
Pat
Stopped lifting for YEARS
Where he was: Pat trained intensely in powerlifting and other sports for a decade before injuring his low back and experiencing pelvic floor issues. He stopper lifting for about 3-4 years because of his pain levels. Despite multiple chiropractors, and physical therapists, his rehab was unsuccessful.
What we did: Since pat's goals were centered around being able to squat, bench and deadlift again that's what the aim was. We started off with test and measures finding imbalances that may have been leading to his issues. We started to correct those imbalances and improve his tolerance to accepting load. Pat started to workout again after the 3rd session together. We started basic, using machines as we worked back in the barbell movements. Throughout this process Pat and I had close communication via text that allowed him to ask questions about how he was feeling, if it was normal, and how to help ease the discomfort.
Where he is now: Pat is lifting 3-4x a week, doing the barbell movements he wants to. He has also been able to progress the weights and feel stronger and stronger. Most of his pain has gone away of his low back and pelvic floor. The pain he does experience is manageable but this is normal because he is pushing himself in the gym.
Hector
Stopped Training for almost a Year
Where he was: Hector was dealing with left shoulder pain for a while. He was barely able to lift that arm, exercise, or train BJJ. All he wanted to do was get back to training without pain.
What we did: We needed to address the stiffness and the pain of the shoulder first. How we did this was through mobilizations, dry needling and activation techniques for the muscles. Then we started to incorporate more lifting and movements that he would be exposed to during BJJ.
Where he is now: He is now able to take up to 8 classes of BJJ./MMA without any pain of his shoulder. He no longer feels limited and is worried about the shoulder being painful during or after training.
John
Was able to get his Black Belt
Where he was: Dealing with chronic shoulder pain that wouldn't go away. This was limiting his ability to train at 100% so that he can earn his Black belt.
What we did: Initially I met John after a class where he asked me about his shoulder. I gave him some exercises to try out which gave him some improvement. Then we sat down for an evaluation and figured out what else he needed to allow him to train pain free. We needed to address his rotator cuff and mid back muscle inefficiencies. We also focused on improving range of motion of the shoulder.
Where he is now: John was able to train at 100% after our sessions together. His ability to train while going through the process and then eventually at 100% lead him to earn his black belt. He now is still training in both MMA/BJJ and is also lifting weights to stay healthy without any shoulder issues.
Lesley
20 Years of Achilles pain, Now GONE!
Where she was: Dealing with chronic Achilles tendon pain, limiting her ability to umpire field hockey games at the pace she would like and needed too.
What we did: When we first started working on her Achilles, we knew it was going to be process to get it where it needed to be, however, Lesley was game. She would come in once a week for her sessions that consisted of Dry needling with stim, mobilization of the ankle and strengthen the calf muscle. All of this to promote healing, allow the tissues to rebuild the way they need to and reduce her pain levels.
Where she is now: She is now able to lift and umpire field hockey games with no limitations from her Achilles tendon. She can also umpire multiple games back to back as well as do consecutive days without limitations for her ankle.
Tony
3 Years of Hip pain, now Back to lifting heavy!
Where he was: Unable to lift heavy or push himself in the gym. If he did push himself there was always pain that would linger. This would limit his ability to exercise consistently. He tried rehabbing it himself for the first few years and did not make progress.
What we did: When Tony came in for an evaluation, we did testing on his hips to test his strength and uncover some muscle imbalances as well as muscle inefficiencies. Then we used dry needling into his hip stabilizing muscles to help increase blood flow, improve muscle activation and decrease his pain. From there he was giving exercises to focus on hip stability and efficiency of his stabilizers.
Where he is now: He is now back to pushing his body to its limits. He is lifting heavy on squats and deadlifts with no pain during or afterwards. He is able to consistently train and has not needed to miss any days in the gym due to hip pain.
Mel
Hip pain before a powerlifting meet, did not stop her!
Where she was: Just ONE week before her powerlifting meet, a squat session left her with sharp hip pain. Her biggest fear? Not being able to step on the platform.
What we did:
First, we calmed her nerves! We immediately addressed her concerns, building a confident plan for competition day. Targeted Treatment: Used manual therapy and dry needling to quickly calm down her low back and glute pain. Smart Loading: Gave her specific exercises to safely load the hip, teaching the muscles to move with less pain. Constant Support: Managed expectations and nerves with frequent text check-ins right up to the meet!
Where she is now: Mel competed with min to no pain! She's back to lifting without limits. She even had a similar flare-up before her most recent meet, and after adding ultrasound-guided dry needling, she was virtually pain-free and crushed her lifts again!
Tara
From Disc Pain to Half-Marathon Training!
Where she was: Tara first came in with high-levels of pain from a herniated disc, causing symptoms to shoot down her left leg. She couldn't sit, run, or exercise comfortably. No matter what she did, the pain was intense, leaving her sidelined.
What we did:
We started working together before her surgery, focusing on improving her strength, mobility, and overall comfort. Once cleared post-surgery, we started PT immediately!
Phase 1: Focused on calming down her pain and symptoms.
Phase 2: Worked to improve her spinal mobility, making movement comfortable again.
Phase 3: Built strength in her hips and low back muscles.
Final Step: Collaborated to develop a tailored weight training program she could follow confidently.
Where she is now: Tara is completely pain-free and lifting without any hesitation! She's running comfortably again and is now training for her first half marathon!
